Eindhoven, Netherlands

Eindhoven is in the birthplace of Philips electronics and is a little off the beaten track in southern Netherlands.

Epic things to do in Eindhoven

Wander the town

Visit the Philips museum

St Catherine’s Church

The town of Eindhoven offers lots of pedestrian friendly streets with loads of shopping and eating opportunities.  There are plenty of places to grab a table outside and watch the world go by.  One of our favorite places was the Stradsbrouwerij (brew pub) which offered craft beers under the label 100 watt (remember this is the birthplace of Philips electronics) and one very tasty charcuterie plate!

Philips Museum – The company was founded here in Eindhoven, although their current headquarters have moved to Amsterdam, the first factory has been adapted and is now a museum. Hours are a little restricted so check out the website if you want to visit.

St Catherine’s Church – Completed in 1867 this neo-Gothic church features soaring towers and rose windows.

Overall – Only an hour and a half train ride from Amsterdam, with an airport that is serviced by Ryanair, Eindhoven, is a good layover stop to have dinner or explore before boarding an inexpensive flight to other cities in Europe.  And if you stay overnight, I highly recommend the boutique hotel, Lumiere.  It is a 10-minute walk from the train station and centrally located for walking around town.
