Epic Experiences in Delhi:
Traffic
Being a passenger in an electric rickshaw
The food
Chandi Chowk
Other things to see –
Red Fort
Jama Masjid Mosque
Red Fort – is Delhi’s most famous monument and represents not only India’s struggle for freedom but it is a reminder of the Mugal era.
Jama Masjid- Near the Red Fort, in the old city, is one of the largest mosques in India and was completed in 1656.
Chandni Chowk – The main street in Old Delhi is a frenzy of people, carts, animals, cars, and vendors. It is one of the oldest and busiest markets in India and you need to experience it for as long as you can take it! It is adjacent to Jama Masjid and the Red Fort
Traffic – It is the craziest traffic I have ever experienced. It is even difficult to walk with all the bikes, cars, motorcycles, shops, people, holes in the sidewalks, trash piles, vendors, and rickshaws. We saw cars driving the wrong way down highway exit ramps, and on the streets. People walking on the highways, whole families on motorcycles!
Rickshaws – take your life in your hands, negotiate a rate and jump aboard for a wild ride!
Food – Love the Indian food. The spices, flavors and combination of ingredients are phenomenal!
We did not have a lot of time to spend in Delhi, but we enjoyed walking in Old Delhi and we especially enjoyed some wonderful meals. I was a little disappointed in some areas that were billed as historical monuments and historical buildings of significance but were just crowded areas filled with people walking and selling cheap stuff.
Overall – loved the experience of just being in the city and experiencing the culture and food.
