Gothenburg is the 2nd largest city in Sweden, it is also a port town and home to Volvo. But what I didn’t know about Gothenburg, was just how beautiful it is!
Epic Things to do in Gothenburg:
Explore the city
Explore the Archipelago
The City: Grab your walking shoes and start strolling along the city’s main boulevard, Avenyn. The street is lined with many cafes and shops. You don’t want to miss the Poseidon statue at the Gotaplatsen square. The square was built for the World Fair in 1923 and ten years later, the statue replaced the fountain. Poseidon, the sea god, is a famous landmark at the top of the boulevard. The Saluhallen Marketplace has 40 different food stalls full of tasty and interesting foods. Another famous place is the Feskekorka – “Fish Church”. It is an indoor fish market and the building itself, resembles a Neo-gothic church and opened there in 1874. Outside of the fish market are some interesting and fun statues of fish market workers you won’t want to miss.

Take a stroll down the famous Haga area to see the wooden houses and historic buildings in this oldest neighborhood. You can pursue the little shops, then stop in a café for a “Fika” break – commonly a giant cinnamon roll (which is more like a pretzel) and coffee.
There is also an amusement park near the city called Liseberg that is popular. In addition to many museums, such as the Volvo museum, the city museum and the museum of art.
The food was wonderful, and we enjoyed an epic view of the city from a sky bar and the most epic meal at a restaurant called Meet.
The Gothenburg Southern Archipelago – is about an hour drive from the city and so worth the trip! It is glimpse of the stunning Scandinavian landscapes and Nordic architecture. We drove up to the little town of Marstrand and enjoyed our ferry ride, and a walk up the hill to the castle where the views were epic. Then back down to walk through the town, a little shopping and a bite to eat.

Overall – I really can’t say enough about how beautiful this area of the country was – it makes me want to go back and explore more of Sweden! One of my best friends lives here and so I was treated like royalty! I had the best tour guide, chauffeur and chief for my entire visit – so that did make my trip even more epic!
