Davos is a small resort town in the Swiss Alps whose claim to fame is its annual World Economic Forum, and its outdoor beauty in which to enjoy a variety of sports. In the winter, both downhill and cross-country skiing are popular. In the summer, there is hiking, mountain biking and swimming and sailing on Lake Davos. The permanent population of the town is only 11,000 so keep in mind that this is small town living. But it is so relaxing and beautiful here!
We visited in early June, so we were sort of “in-between” seasons. Lucky for us, the weather was a perfect 21 degrees C (70 degrees F) during the day and the sun was out in the clear blue skies, although there were still a few piles of snow around the area and plenty of snowcapped mountains.
Epic Things to Do in Davos (off-season):
1. Schatzalp Funicular, Toboggan Run and Mountain Restaurant
2. Enjoy the scenery
3. Relax, enjoy a great dinner or a coffee in town
The Schatzalp, known as the Magic Mountain, is located on a plateau directly above Davos. There is a funicular that takes you up the mountain where the adventure continues. (Check with your hotel first because our hotel provided each of us with a public transportation ticket and a funicular ticket for free). First stop is the summer toboggan run. Take a few coins up with you and you can take a ride on the 500-meter metal slide on special sleds. It’s a blast and you won’t want to stop! There is also a hotel and a couple restaurants but it’s even more fun to hike up the mountain about 15 minutes to the mountain restaurant, which has a sun terrace with fabulous views. Grab a seat, relax with a drink or a meal and soak in the scenery. Watch for all the paragliders over the mountains and relish the moment!

The Views!
There is a second funicular in the area, Lake Davos is nearby, and the town is fun to stroll through. Stop for a coffee at one of the coffee shops, shop for sports apparel, or find a great local place for dinner.

Pretty Church in Town
Overall – a gorgeous place to explore for a day and I’m sure this is even better if you are planning to hike, bike, sail or ski!
